Our approach to math is very similar to the Visualizing and Verbalizing Program for Language Comprehension and Thinking™ that we use for comprehension. We show students how to take incoming information from the senses of touch, sound, and sight and turn it into useful images in their heads. Then, we ask them to talk about their images and about the math problems they are calculating. Self expression assists our students to catch their own errors and also helps them learn the concept better.
